FAQ

Questions and answers

  1. Who actually does the work if I use Ourlaughing Pest Control?

An independent local provider does the work. Ourlaughing Pest Control is a referral service, so it does not send anyone to your home or treat it. You send a request, and it gets matched with a provider in our network that serves the Chanhassen area. You then talk with that provider about the plan, the price and the schedule before anything starts.

  2. Is it safe to handle ants, spiders or mice myself?

Often, yes, for small problems. Wipe up crumbs, store food in sealed bins, fix drips and seal small gaps with caulk or steel wool. Know where DIY stops, though. Skip DIY for wasp nests, bats, rats in walls, or anything involving restricted-use products. Never mix chemicals or spray inside wall voids. Wear gloves, and keep kids and pets away from any bait or trap you set.

  3. How much does pest control or wildlife removal usually cost?

It varies a lot by job. In the U.S., a basic pest visit often runs from about $100 to $300, and ongoing plans are billed by the month or quarter. Termite work and wildlife jobs can run from several hundred to a few thousand dollars. Size of home, pest type and repairs all matter. Ask each provider for a written quote and compare what it includes.

  4. How fast can someone come out?

It depends on the provider, the season and the pest. Many providers can respond quickly when the problem is urgent, like stinging insects near a door or an animal trapped indoors. Others book a few days out for routine visits. Request a callback to check provider availability, or send an estimate request and note how urgent it feels.

  5. What should I expect during the first visit?

The provider usually starts with questions, then inspects the home. Expect a walk of the inside, the foundation, the attic or crawl space, and the yard. They name the pest, show you the entry points and explain the plan. You should get a written quote before treatment. Ask what to move, what to avoid and how long to stay out.

  6. Do I need to prep my home before treatment?

Usually a little. Clear the floor along baseboards, empty under-sink cabinets, and move furniture a few inches from walls. Cover or put away food, dishes and pet bowls. Wash bedding on hot if you have bed bugs, but ask the provider first, since each method has its own prep list. Follow the written instructions exactly.

  7. Will the pests come back after treatment?

They can, especially if the reason they came is still there. That is why we say, fix it, then seal it. Close gaps, trim branches off the roof, stack firewood away from walls, and keep gutters and the sump area dry. Ask your provider about follow-up visits or a maintenance plan, and walk the perimeter each season.

  8. Does homeowners insurance cover pest or wildlife damage?

Often not, since many policies treat pests as a maintenance issue. Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as certain animal-caused harm, so check your policy and ask your agent. Providers can often help document damage for a claim with notes and photos. Keep your receipts and any written reports in one folder.
